Demonic

We developed and built the multicamera capture system and recorded volumetric performances for Neill Blomkamp’s Demonic.

Actors performed inside a cylindrical array of 265 4K cameras. Smaller mobile hemispheres, each with 40–50 cameras, brought capture closer to the performers’ faces. The synchronized recordings became moving three-dimensional performances for the film’s virtual scenes.

The production combined custom camera geometry, a working capture stage and a substantial data workflow. Blomkamp describes roughly 12–15 terabytes of footage being downloaded each night. His interview and the Linus Tech Tips visit show the hardware, lighting and processing setup behind the film.
