Kokomo by Canon

VCS contributed immersive communication technology to Canon’s Kokomo project from 2020 to 2023. Our work included photogrammetry capture, rebuilding scans as real-time lit environments, cleaning up scanned objects and optimizing scenes for VR hardware. We also worked on how live captured participants were lit and integrated into the virtual setting.

Canon introduced Kokomo at CES 2022 with immersive calls to a Canon brand ambassador. At CES 2023, visitors entered one-to-one VR conversations with characters from Knock at the Cabin; Canon also announced early access using a compatible smartphone and Quest 2 headset. In 2024, Canon used Kokomo for a travel-themed virtual scavenger hunt. These event photographs show Canon’s public demonstrations of the platform.
